Synch problems between iphone and PC
Synch problems between iphone and PC
Hi there!
I have always been on Android phones, and have had no issues with synching contacts between EPim and my phones. I ended up with an iphone at work for different reasons recently, and now I am not able to synch contacts between my PC and the ipone
What I have verified:
1. Both the iphone and the PC is connected to the same SSID
2. I have turned of the windows firewall (just to be sure)
3. I have started a synch to iphone / ipad on the windows application
4. I have started the EPIM application on the iphone and clicked the PC synch option
5. I am able to ping the iphone on the same subnet as the pc, so the low level ip-stuff is okay
I don't get as far as getting the devices paired, and I don't see the "Start" button on the IOS-app.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot?

Just a follow up question. I see the prerequsites for synchronization between IOS-mobile app and Windows applications is that the Windows PC has iTunes installed on the PC and that the Bonjour service is running?
Is this also true if you are not synching against any cloud services, but just directly between the phone app and the Windows application?

Yes, this needs to be installed for a successful sync.

Re: Synch problems between iphone and PC
Okay, so then I can confirm that I was able to successfully do a contact synch between Windows EPIM and IOS EPIM after I installed itunes and the bonjour service.
Just another question; I have two sections of contacs, work and private ... before synching private contacts or work contacts to my private or work phone, I flip the public/private switch, so I keep private contacts out of my work phone and vica versa. I think I remember it was a setting somewhere that decided if it should synch private contacts or not? It is not an issue because it works as I want it to work now. Do I remember this correctly, or is it just made like this by design (As I said ... it is working as I want it to work, so this question is not related to me having a problem).
Best regards.
Re: Synch problems between iphone and PC
Okay ... I have a followup question. All my work contacts have been synching successfully to my work phone (as intended).
But when I see in my call log, I only see phone numbers and not the name of any of my contacts even if I know at least one of them is in the contact list. On Android phones you had this EPIM user you had to flip on and of. Especially on Samsung phones the contacts could disappear after system updates, but the fix was always just to flip the switch for the EPIM user and they were back again.
I am not familiar with iphone and EPIM at this stage, so I wonder if I have missed something somewhere?

Okay ... I actually know what is happening now, I think. I thought all my contacts, with all their data actually got synchronized to the iphone. When I look at the contact list now, The name of the contact is there, the company name, the company web page and the company e-mail. The phone number on the other hand, is not. So ... when searching for a specific contact in the contact list, I find the contact, but the call button is greyed out since no phone number is registered on the contact.Skynet wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2026 12:35 am Okay ... I am using the business phone and the business mobile phone fields in essential pim for work contacts.

Re: Synch problems between iphone and PC
If these are custom fields, they may not sync with the actual phone number fields on an iPhone.

I could not remember, so I made a test portable install of the 26.0.6 version of EssentialPim Pro and opened the windows for making a new contact:admin wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2026 8:22 am If these are custom fields, they may not sync with the actual phone number fields on an iPhone.
It seems like you have a mobile and a business phone as default, and then you are able to add a phone and business mobile phone in addition to that. Other fields sorts under the "Add custom field".
Some contacts may have both a private and business number, so that can be difficult if they have several mobile numbers that needs to be added under the same contact.
I use the phone / mobile phone for private contact numbers and the business phone and business mobile phone field for work numbers.
Is that classified as custom or is that part of the "default package"?
Sorry for all the questions, but this has always worked seamlessy on android.
Re: Synch problems between iphone and PC
I did another check and it seems like the business phone field is synched, while the business mobile phone field is not synched. Since very few contacts have phones on their desks anymore, most contacts will typically have a cellular for work, and the business phone number is typically to some helpdesk or secretary function.Skynet wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2026 6:34 pmI could not remember, so I made a test portable install of the 26.0.6 version of EssentialPim Pro and opened the windows for making a new contact:admin wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2026 8:22 am If these are custom fields, they may not sync with the actual phone number fields on an iPhone.

Re: Synch problems between iphone and PC
It appears there's no "business mobile phone" field among the default contact fields on an iPhone. The "business phone" field can be used to store any type of number including mobile ones, so it should work as a suitable alternative.

Re: Synch problems between iphone and PC
It seems like the iphone synch behaves differently than the Android synch then. Can I assume that custom fields added to iphone contacts on the iphone won't be synched to PC Epim either?
