Line Numbering

Post by VictorParkerPIM »

When I turn on Line #s it turns them on & off for all notes, is this the way it works?
I didn't see anything in the help file on line numbering.
It seems that it would be for individual notes. Am I missing something?
I don't see a reason for line numbers on all notes.

Option:
1.Off
2.Individual
3.All

So far this has been by design. Let's see what other users think about making this option selectable individually for each note.

its rather needed for special notes, when you need clear reference, like in some official publications, science or professional work.
i would rather disable if for all if couldnt set it for single notes, as it breaks my focus and concentration etc.
i think i can live with it (at moment), as have more distracting issues, which i hope we can finally solve.
i possibly come back to it then/later

Options as VictorParkerPIM suggests. It depends highly on the kind of individual working of the user, i would like to have Option "2. Individual"

What do you guys think about similar features like rulers, inline display of PDF attachments, zooming? Should these also have individual options as suggested by VictorParkerPIM?

i see the most need of getting individual options for showing holidays like sunday, with red weekday and day numbers in all calendar views and mini calendar, and background color of the holidays in weekview like sat/sunday.
i struggle with it since ever, its an essential planning and overview issue and it was requested several times (threads) and needs to be solved by design/default or any setting, like settings of this particular category.
its nonsense without it, you cannot plan vacation or anything else and dont have clear view for when groceries and everything is closed.
its the original and key idea of a calendar.
i think in the todays busy word one jumps directly of a tool missing it instead of complaining about it, as its the core idea of a calendar.
and as i dont use a paper calendar since shortly, i have troubles because of this incapability.
its on very top 3 or 5 of my epim issues, needs, missing capability.
hope you see and get the importance

I would tend to think zooming and inline display of PDF attachments are something you'd want across all notes. Rulers, like line numbers, may be a feature you want to apply selectively.

IMHO
No. Too much clutter. The program is a desktop/mobile PIM with email and not an office suite. I suggest that programmer time and energy be spent on polishing the existing program before stuffing it with more.

I agree that adding a dedicated option might be too excessive in this case but adjusting the default behavior for rulers and line numbers makes sense. It shouldn't be difficult to implement and seems to align better with what users naturally expect.

DanFelix, please feel free to open a separate thread about polishing. It would be good to know if there are any specific areas you'd like us to focus on.

+1.

I think they should be individual options as VictorParkerPIM has suggested. Including line numbers. I have thousands of notes, from notes with thoughts just randomly jotted down to structured lists where line numbers become important to reference a particular line from elsewhere in the same note.

So, what I would like to see is global default settings for these features in newly created notes that can be overridden on a per note basis. Existing notes would also be able to set/reset these features as well for the existing note in question.

+1 for ecsaltz's idea of a global setting for the ruler and line numbers in notes. I want the ruler, but not line numbers, in my notes. As it is in v26.0.2, I now have to change the view setting for the ruler in every leaf.

There was an issue with this option in the previous EPIM version, which should now be resolved in the 9648 build.
